The problem is the "Ignore Limit" button

When an iPhone Screen Time limit hits, it offers One More Minute, Remind Me in 15 Minutes, and Ignore Limit for Today. Every one is free, so you take it. The fix is not hiding the buttons. It is making the exit cost something you picked in advance. Stint does that: opening a blocked app ends your focus session, and if that costs you the day's goal, you forfeit your share of the prize pool.

In Stint the exit is still there. It just costs you your share of the pool.

The limit arrives mid-scroll, when you are at your weakest, and the escape is one tap. Tap it once and the tap gets easier. After a week the prompt is invisible; you dismiss it the way you dismiss a cookie banner.

Passcodes do not help. Either you know it, or you handed it to someone and will ask for it back. Ask anyone who has tried.

iPhone's stock Screen Time was too easy to bypass.

Several blockers advertise "no ignore button" or a strict mode with a wait, a typed sentence or an NFC tag. Those are speed bumps. They stop the first impulse, and they teach you the route around them: revoke Screen Time in Settings, or delete the app. Both take seconds.

A limit without an exit does not exist on iPhone. A limit whose exit costs something does.

Willpower is weakest at the point of temptation and strongest ten minutes before. A session is a decision made at the strong moment: the next ninety minutes are work. Inside the session there is nothing to decide. Blocked apps show a shield, your job is to keep going.

This is why sessions beat daily limits. A daily limit negotiates with you all day. A session asks once.

You join a pool: a small group, same daily focus goal, same number of days. Everyone pays an entry fee into a shared prize pool.

When you start a session, the apps you chose are shielded through Screen Time. Focus time counts only inside the work apps you picked. Open a blocked app and the session ends.

Meet the goal every day and you qualify. Everyone who qualifies splits the pool. Miss it and you forfeit your share. Nothing else is ever charged.

  • Pick one block of the day for focused work, same time every day.
  • Join a pool whose goal matches that block: one hour, two hours, whatever you can do on a bad day.
  • Start the session before you open anything else. The countdown on the lock screen is the cue.
  • Keep two emergency apps with a small daily allowance so a real need never forces you out.
  • When the pool settles, join the next one. The gap between challenges is where habits die.

Questionspeopleask

Do I still need Screen Time limits?

Outside sessions, your normal Screen Time settings apply. Most people keep a light evening limit and use Stint sessions for work.

What if I genuinely need a blocked app?

Mark up to two non-social apps as emergency apps with a small daily budget. For anything else, end the session; it will not count toward that day.
