one sec alternatives, for when the pause stops working

one sec puts a short breathing pause in front of the apps you choose, and it cuts reflexive opens in the first week. It never blocks anything, and most people learn to breathe through it and tap Continue. If you want a real block, use Opal or Apple's Screen Time. If you want the pause to keep meaning something, use Stint, where opening a blocked app mid-session costs you your share of a prize pool.

Whatusersreport

At first it worked pretty well, but over time I felt like it became less and less effective.

The pause is friction, and friction habituates. one sec knows this and rotates the interventions: a mirror, a rotated phone, typed text, a longer breath. Novelty buys weeks, not months.

one sec is a good daily-life layer: it will still catch the mindless 11pm open. What it cannot do is protect ninety minutes of work. For that, start a Stint session: blocked apps are shielded, focus counts only in your work apps, and the pool you joined is waiting for your day to be logged.

You join a pool: a small group, same daily focus goal, same number of days. Everyone pays an entry fee into a shared prize pool.

When you start a session, the apps you chose are shielded through Screen Time. Focus time counts only inside the work apps you picked. Open a blocked app and the session ends.

Meet the goal every day and you qualify. Everyone who qualifies splits the pool. Miss it and you forfeit your share. Nothing else is ever charged.

Questionspeopleask

Can I use one sec and Stint together?

Yes. one sec works through Shortcuts automations, Stint through Screen Time sessions. They do not interfere.

Does Stint make me wait or breathe?

No. During a session, a blocked app simply shows a shield. The consequence is not a delay; it is that opening it ends the session.
