The challenge
What is Stint?
Stint is a focus app for iPhone where a group pays an entry fee into a prize pool, commits to a daily focus goal, and everyone who qualifies splits the pool. Your devices verify your focus time, and only the apps you choose are blocked during a session.
How does the prize pool work?
Each member of a pool pays the same entry fee, and the entry fees make up the prize pool. Any service fee is shown at checkout before you pay. Everyone commits to the same daily focus goal for the length of the challenge. When it ends, everyone who qualified splits the prize pool equally, so fewer qualifiers means a larger share each.
How do I qualify?
Meet the pool’s daily focus goal on the days its rules require. The goal, the length and the rules are shown before you join. Focus time counts only while you are in the work apps you chose, and only during a session.
What happens if I don't qualify?
You forfeit your share of the prize pool, and the members who qualify split it. The most you can lose is the entry fee you paid to join: you are never charged anything more for missing a goal.
Is Stint a game of chance?
No. It’s a skill-based productivity challenge with an entry fee. The goal is set and shown before you join, and whether you qualify depends only on the focused work you do, not on luck. Stint never charges you based on your performance.
Who can join a pool?
Anyone 18 or older. Stint asks for your date of birth before your first pool with an entry fee. In some regions, real-money challenges may be unavailable or offered with points instead.
Can I do a focus challenge with friends?
Yes. Create a private pool and share it with friends by invite code or link; only people you invite can join. Hosting a pool needs Stint Pro, and joining one doesn’t.
How is Stint different from stickK or Beeminder?
stickK and Beeminder charge you when you miss a goal; in Stint, everyone pays the same entry fee up front and everyone who qualifies splits the prize pool. You’re never charged more than your entry fee, and your focus time is measured by your devices.
Blocking and privacy
Which apps are blocked?
Only the ones you choose, and only while a session runs. On iPhone you pick them in Apple’s Screen Time picker; on a computer you pick apps and sites in Stint. You can also choose up to two emergency apps that stay usable for a few minutes a day.
What happens if I open a blocked app during a session?
You see Stint’s block screen instead of the app, with a warning. Leave takes you back and your session keeps running; Unlock anyway lifts the block and ends that day’s session. Up to two emergency apps you chose stay usable for a few minutes a day.
Is Stint an Opal alternative?
Yes. Like Opal, Stint blocks the apps you choose with Apple’s Screen Time. Unlike Opal, you take the challenge with a group and an entry fee in a prize pool, so quitting costs you your share, and your focus time is measured by your devices.
Is my browsing tracked?
Only to decide what counts, and only on your device. The extension and the computer apps look at the site in your active tab to tell whether it is a work site, a blocked site or neither. Full web addresses and page content never leave your device. During a session Stint receives the number of seconds each minute in each category, and a site’s domain only when you add it to your own rules.
Which devices does Stint work on?
Stint runs on iPhone (iOS 18 or later), Android, Mac (macOS 13 or later) and Windows (10 22H2 or 11), with an extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc. Available now: iPhone. Coming soon: Android, Mac, Windows, the Chrome extension and the Edge extension. Every computer or browser links to your account from the Stint app on your phone, and one session covers all of them.
Is Stint on Android or Mac?
Not yet. Stint is live on iPhone today, and Android, Mac, Windows, the Chrome extension and the Edge extension are coming soon. The download page shows each one’s status, and they all link to the same account.
Payouts, Pro and refunds
Is Stint free?
Yes, Stint is free to download. You pay a pool’s entry fee only when you join one, and it’s shown before you join. Stint Pro (US$5.99 a month) is optional.
How are payouts sent?
When a pool settles, each qualifying member’s share becomes a pending payout. The Stint team reviews it, using an effort-and-integrity score from your focus data, and then sends it outside the app through a third-party payment service. A payout can be withheld or reduced where there is evidence of cheating.
What is Stint Pro?
An optional subscription for US$5.99 a month, billed monthly with no free trial. It unlocks hosting pools, focus analytics, unlimited blocking and pool chat. Stint is free to download, and you can cancel Pro at any time from your App Store or Google Play subscriptions.
Can I get a refund?
If a pool is cancelled before it starts, entry fees are returned. Once a challenge has started, entry fees are committed to the prize pool and are not refundable. Refunds for Stint Pro go through Apple.
