Stint

A focus app for studying that keeps you at the desk

A study timer is easy to ignore. Stint puts something on the line instead: you join a group taking the same study challenge, pay an entry fee into a shared prize pool, and everyone who hits the daily goal splits it.

How it works for studying

  • Join a pool. Each one is a fixed group with the same daily focus goal, such as two hours a day for two weeks.
  • Pick your study apps as work apps: your notes, your PDF reader, your flashcards, your writing app. Only time in them counts.
  • Pick the apps that pull you away. They are blocked while you study, and nothing else is.
  • Meet the daily goal on the days the pool’s rules require and you qualify. Everyone who qualifies splits the prize pool equally.

Why a group helps

Everyone in your pool is working toward the same goal on the same days. The pool has a group chat for check-ins and cheers, and you can see who has qualified today. Showing up is easier when other people are.

Private pools are invite-only and shared by a code or a link, so a study group or a class can take a challenge together.

Study time that is checked, not claimed

Your phone, and your laptop if you link it, report each minute of a session to Stint’s server. Time outside your study apps does not count, and the computer apps only count time while you are active. Studying in the browser? The Chrome extension counts time on the sites you mark as study sites.

What you risk, and what you don’t

The most you can lose is the entry fee you paid to join. If you don’t qualify, you forfeit your share of the prize pool and are never charged anything more. Joining a pool with an entry fee requires being 18 or older. More in the FAQ.
