Stint, the prize-pool focus app, turns deep work into a group challenge. A pool is a fixed group of people taking the same challenge: each member pays the same entry fee into a prize pool and commits to the same daily focus goal. Focus time counts only in the work apps each person picks, and only the apps they choose get blocked. Their devices verify each focused minute, so nothing is self-reported. Everyone who qualifies splits the prize pool. Stint is free to download on iPhone, with Mac, Windows, Android and Chrome coming soon. Stint Pro is US$5.99 a month.

How it works, in three lines

  1. Join a pool: everyone pays the same entry fee into the prize pool and commits to the same daily focus goal.

  2. Focus: time counts only in your work apps, the apps you chose are blocked, and your devices verify every minute.

  3. Qualify and split: everyone who meets the goal on the days the rules require splits the prize pool.

The details: how it works and how prize pools work.

What makes it different

Most focus apps run on willpower or charge you when you slip. This one does neither.

Verified by devices

Focus time is reported by each device in a session, minute by minute, and checked on our server. It is never self-reported, and no more time is credited than has actually passed.

Finishers split a prize pool

Pay-if-you-fail apps such as stickK and Beeminder charge you when you miss a goal. Here everyone pays the same entry fee up front, and everyone who qualifies splits the prize pool. Nobody is charged more than their entry fee.

Blocks only what you choose

Nothing is blocked unless the person picks it, and only while a session runs. Focus time counts only in the work apps they chose.

It is a skill-based productivity challenge: whether someone qualifies depends only on the focused work they do, never on luck. Members must be 18 or older, and the full rules are in the Terms.

Brand basics

Name

Write “Stint, the prize-pool focus app” on first mention and in every headline. Several other apps share the name, so “Stint” alone in a headline is ambiguous.

“Stint” on its own is fine after the first mention. Not affiliated with Stint, the UK student-jobs app.
